“Hotel developer Sage Hospitality is in negotiations to join the Rossonian Hotel redevelopment project, bringing the historic Five Points property closer than ever to new life.
“We’re discussing it with Sage. We’re working with Sage,” said Martin Willie, director of project development for Civil Technology Inc., which owns the 102-year-old Rossonian in the heart of Five Points at 27th and Welton streets.
Preliminary plans call for a 120-room hotel, 35-40 condo units, two restaurants and retail space. The redevelopment would include the existing three-story Rossonian building and adjacent new construction along Welton.
Once housing an iconic jazz club that attracted the likes of Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Dinah Washington, the Rossonian has been mostly boarded up in recent decades and the focus of several failed redevelopment efforts.
Elsewhere in Five Points, development activity is picking up. Commercial and residential projects valued at an estimated $150 million are either underway or in advanced stages of planning.
Denver-based Sage Hospitality’s potential interest in the property is viewed as bringing a notable corporate name and development firepower.”
