Together with RTD, this past Tuesday, we released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the development of a mixed-income condominium project at 29th & Welton.
Affordable homeownership continues to be a critical challenge for Denver as prices for both single-family homes and condominiums have doubled in the last several years. Condominiums have traditionally served as an entry point to homeownership for first-time, lower-income, or downsizing homebuyers, but the supply of condos in Denver has barely grown over recent years even as our population has boomed. Of new condos that have been built, many have been sold at premium prices, far out of reach for homebuyers earning less than the median income.
Through this RFQ, we’re seeking a development partner who will play a leadership role in creating and piloting a new model of affordable homeownership that can be replicated on other sites throughout the City. We believe that a strong partnership between public and private partners can help overcome barriers to affordable condominium construction.”
