“One local Black-owned gift shop in the Five Points neighborhood is closing its doors after more than 20 years in business. The owner says the pandemic is part of the reason but also points to a changing landscape in her neighborhood.
You may not be able to see it now, but she says the Denver neighborhood was once filled with soul and Black culture.
“I think Black people recognize that this used to be our old stomping grounds,” said owner of Neat Stuff, Jacquelyn Logan.
Formerly known as the “Harlem of the West,” Five Points is unrecognizable to those who have been in the neighborhood the longest.”
